People with Disabilities
Introduction:
1-
Hook:
We might not
know who is that child who had a learning disability, failed in math in school,
and did not speak until the age of 3? But if knew that this disabled child grew
up and became Albert Einstein we will definitely know him.
2- Definition:
When most
people think of the word "disability" they immediately picture
someone in a wheelchair.
The most commonly cited definition is that of
the World Health Organization in 1976: a disability is any restriction or lack
of ability to perform an activity in the manner or within the range considered
normal for a human being.
2-
History:
During the
middle Ages, disabled people have been treated offensively and in a racist
ways. Madness and other conditions were
thought to be caused by demons, therefore, normal people avoided disabled
people. In Nazi Germany, between 1939 and 1941, more than 70,000 disabled people
have been killed because they were considered “unfit”.
Description/examples
1-
Types:
The category of disability includes people with varying types of
impairments that impact on how the individual lives. People who have a broken
bone also fall into this category of disability. But the main types of
disabilities are: Intellectual disability,Physical disability, Sensory
disability, and Mental illness.
2-
Causes:
Some people could born with a disability. Other people get disabled
over time, and some people become disabled suddenly, because of an accident or
disease. As a fact, accidents cause disabilities more than inheritance dose. In
2008 in the United States, there were 250,700people with a down syndrome and in
the same year 2,120,000 people were injured because of traffic accidents.
Advantages and disadvantages
1- advantages:
Being disabled is not necessarily a bad
thing. People with disabilities always show an extraordinary intelligence or
some kind of ability that normal people can’t do. A study in the US have shown
that People with autism often have exceptional memories, and can remember
information they read weeks ago. And on a test that involved completing a
visual pattern, people with autism finished 40 percent faster than those
without the condition.
3- Disadvantages:
Being disabled means being different, and
being different form other people means more challenges. For example, at work, it
may take longer for someone with a physical disability to move equipment, while
someone with a mental disability may take longer to read and interpret
documents.
Solution:
According to the World Bank organization, One-fifth of the estimated global total, or between
110 million and 190 million people, experience significant disabilities. That
number of unemployed or unlearned people is a great loss. Therefore,
organizations and associations were made to make it easier for disabled people
to have jobs, medicine, education or any right.
Disabled People’s
Organizations (DPOs) is one of these organizations and 51% of the staff are
disabled. To prove that it's interested in fulfilling all their needs.
UAE:
UAE cares about
people with disabilities weather they are citizens, residents or visitors.
Furthermore, a law was issued 2006 in the UAE that protects people with
disabilities and their rights. The Law aims to provide high-quality medical
care and social services. And there are organizations that directly help
disabled people in the UAE from before 2006 such as, Zayed higher organization
for humanitarian care & special needs, Dubai autism center, and the
association of families of persons with disabilities. I have a cousin how
suffer from down syndrome and she became very social and cooperative because these
organizations.
Conclusion:
Disabled people are people with needs just
as we are, and any one of us can become disabled at any time. Therefore, I
think disabled people should be treated right and with a lot of care. And we
should not waste their qualifications and strength points by making ignored and
unemployed.
