Good
morning, my name is Ali Al Ahbabi. The name of my talk is "The puzzle of
motivation". A question, dose more money increases the level of
performance? Well Dan Pink answers that question in his talk which its main
idea is the mismatch between what sciences says and what business dose. He explains that in
three sub ideas: the first sub idea is that punishment and rewarding which are
the most popular ways to motivate people are not giving the expected result and
that they only work in a narrow band of circumstances. His second idea is that
rewords often destroys creativity. His statement is based on an experiment made
on groups of students from deferent majors, they were giving tasks and rewards
were sorted depending on the major. Whenever these task in clued mathematics,
engineering students had the best result, but when these tasks include more of
right brain thinking, engineering students had the worst results although that
had the biggest reward. The third sub idea is that punishments and rewards are
not the keys to high performance but it’s the drive to do things for their own
sake. With all of that being said, I think I should sum up with this; most of
our ways of motivation are not satisfying and out dated. Therefore, we should
keep looking for more efficient ways of motivating people that are proved by
practice. That’s it, thank you for listening and good bye.
